- Geon Lee, an undergraduate student from Professor Joyce Jiyoung Whang’s Big Data Lab, published a top conference paper Geon Lee is currently in his senior year studying software engineering at SungKyunKwan University. He is also studying in Professor Whang’s Big Data Lab. He published a paper at SIGIR. SIGIR is one of the top conference in research area of Information Retrieval and his thesis will be published in short paper track. Lee is the lead author of the thesis. The thesis was written under Professor Whang’s supervision. Lee demonstrated how to solve hyperlink classification problem on web graph using graph embedding. In addition, the research is the industry-university collaboration project with Naver. It turns out to be a breakthrough for analysis on graph structures technology, especially when it applies hyperlink classification problem.

- [Research] SKKU made an agreement with Gyeonggi-do to establish and promote graduate school of AI
- SKKU made an agreement with Gyeonggi-do to establish and promote graduate school of AI On March 15, SKKU made an agreement with Gyeonggi-do to establish and promote graduate school of AI. SKKU has been selected in a project of ‘graduate school of AI’ by Ministry of Science and Technology. It is expected to get a financial support of about $20M from the government as well as Gyeonggi-do for the next ten years at maximum. SKKU expects to promote talented human resources in AI field. Also, SKKU plans to establish a cooperation system with Gyeonggi-do to gain industrial competitiveness and create more jobs in the field. The agreement ceremony was held at Gyeonggi city hall. Dong Ryul Shin, president of SKKU, Hong Jun Yoo, vice-president from Seoul campus, Sung Jin Song, vice-president from Suwon campus, Hyun Seong Choo, head of Industry-University Collaboration, Ji Hyung Lee, vice-president of Convergence Institute for Intelligence and Informatics and others attended. Jae Myung Lee, governor of Gyeonggi-do, and Suwon district councilor attended as well. President of SKKU stated, “AI field has been the key to the development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0,” and that it is “expected to nurture more students in the level of master’s and doctoral degrees to become the leaders in the field and gain global competitiveness.” Governor of Gyeonggi-do also wished, “to support in administrative and financial work of SKKU Graduate School of AI” and expected an increase in jobs in related field in Gyeonggi-do.
